Sometimes standard furniture is not beautiful or practical and you can get the desired look with customization. The space under the stairs is the perfect example of this. In this DIY project, Cornelieq shows how you can make a beautiful, functional custom stair cupboard using sawn MDF and plywood ordered online.
Description by Cornelieq
To make good use of the space under the stairs, I made 2 pull-out cupboards. Above that, a key box and the space further closed with an MDF board.
How I made this project
There were several cabinets under the stairs, but it remained a mess. I didn't want to just hang shelves and put a door in front of them. The idea arose that the space could be better utilized with pull-out cabinets. To do this, first measure the space. I used the stair style on one side and placed a slat on the other side. Because a key box was also needed, it was necessary to take the depth of the stair style into account because at a certain height the steps came around the corner and there was no longer room for the key box. Everything was drawn out and calculated how large all parts should be. The outside dimensions of the 2 cabinets are the same. One of the cabinets contains 2 IVAR drawers from IKEA. The cabinets stand on 4 wheels with a height of 70mm. The key box ended up being slightly less high than calculated. For contrast, it is made of plywood, the rest of the cabinet is made of MDF.
